5 Signs you need a personal trainer!

There's lots of information out there about what makes a good personal trainer and signs to look out for if your one-on-one sessions are not up to par. But  few of them seem to talk about whether you actually need a personal trainer in the first place, or are you following a fad? Trainers don't come cheap so if you want to get in shape and think that a trainer might be the best way to go, consider whether  you'd benefit from a personalized exercise program. You might do just as well in a class or group. Look out for the signs, and decide if you are the type to benefit.

A personal trainer can offer you an efficient and effective route to personal fitness and empower you to reach your health and fitness goals. While you might see the value in personal training it is always worth asking if it is the right way for you to go to improve your own health and fitness. If you're in doubt, see if you tick any of the boxes on our personal trainer checklist.

  1. You lack motivation - Some people are naturally motivated, whilst others find inspiration along the way from sheer determination or the people around them. If you are lacking in this area then a personal trainer is ideal. A personalized approach and can-do attitude can really spur you on and their enthusiasm can rub off on you. It's not about finding a crutch so much as being around someone who is a real support, both physically and mentally.

  1. You have tried and failed - Are you one of those people that has tried every way of getting fit possible, not to mention every diet  out there, but have never experienced the sweet smell of success? Don't beat yourself up, it could be that you were nearly on the right track but just needed some professional help. If you fail it is good to get up and try again but if you keep on failing perhaps it's time to try a different approach - such as personal training sessions.

  1. You don't have solid fitness buddies - Some people have such dedicated fitness friends that they  already have a great support network. This is usually enough for them although (though any real fitness fan can benefit from the experience that a personal trainer can bring). But if your friends are about good times and always up for a drink, a meal and fun times, rather than a run in the park and a diet, then you might need a solid fitness friend in the shape of a personal trainer.

  1. You don't know where to start - You are raring to go, have all the gear and are totally determined to get fit. Great! But are you stumbling at the first hurdle and don't quite know how to transform your enthusiasm into taking practical steps to a find a fitter you? Personalized assessments of where you stand right now from a an experienced personal trainer can give you a good footing from the get-go.

  1. You don't know where to go or how to get there - If you have an understanding of fitness and know your way around a gym, then you might have some idea of what you need to get going. However, if you've found that you're not sure how to gain momentum and the best route to go as you progress, it might be time to take onboard a personalized fitness strategy with a personal trainer to guide you along the way. Even if it is just to get you started for a few weeks.
